A Sweet Family Session at Home | Durham Family Photographer

Do you know my favorite place to take photos? Believe it or not, it’s YOUR HOME! Often times, clients ask me for my thoughts on a location and I love letting them know that their home is an option—most people don’t even realize that’s possible! When Oliver contacted me, I learned that they’ve taken family photos at their home before and I was SO excited to hear that!

We started their session in their backyard, and it was truly the perfect fall backdrop! They were all so charming and warm in front of the camera, and I truly enjoyed getting to know them, especially their daughter! She was so cheerful the whole time and LOVED smiling for the camera! She also wanted to include her dolls and her favorite stuffed animal named Doggy in the shoot, and of course I said yes! It was so funny because it reminded me of my favorite stuffed animal growing up who was also named Doggy!!

One of my favorite moments was capturing their daughter hugging and kissing her dad. She was so affectionate and the look on her face was priceless! You can tell she really adores her dad! I also loved capturing photos of just Oliver and his wife, Sarah. Their bond with each other was so genuine and strong! I believe it’s so important to take photos of just the parents when possible because honestly, when was the last time you got professional photos together? People usually tell me it was their wedding!

Jenn and John | Durham Family Photographer

I truly had the sweetest time taking photos for Jenn and John at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham! I learned that Jenn found me through Instagram (I’m always amazed at how technology and social media can bring people together nowadays!) and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the both of them! They both have such a gentle and kind demeanor, and the most beautiful connection with each other! They’ve been married for about two years (just like my husband and me!) and are originally from Texas.

One of my favorite parts of our portrait session was shooting with the American Tobacco sign (see last photo)! It is iconic and a great way of telling a family story. A lot of my clients moved here and/or may be planning to move again, and I wanted to make sure we capture this moment in time. In addition, I LOVED using the brick buildings in the background as it is also a very symbolic attribute of the Raleigh-Durham area! Enjoy scrolling through the photos and getting to know this couple!

Location: American Tobacco Campus, Durham, NC

Meet Moose the Corgi! | Raleigh Family Photographer

I recently took family photos for this beautiful family with their dog, Moose, the corgi! When Pauline got in touch with me, she share with me the emotional journey they had with their dog, Moose, this year. In a nutshell, Moose fell twice and had to get two back surgeries, and they almost lost her. After a lot of hard work at rehab, she is amazingly walking again! With everything that has happened this year, they wanted to take photos to celebrate Moose and to have pictures of the three of them together that they can cherish for years to come!

The weather was crisp and cool the day of their session, and there were a lot of other families at NCMA with their dogs—it was like a party! When we started our photo shoot, I was amazed at how Pauline, Alex, and Moose were so natural and comfortable in front of the camera. Usually it takes about 10 minutes for most people to warm up, but they were SO relaxed and it totally shows in their photos!

Moose was also such a gentle and calm dog, and had the most adorable smile! Pauline taught me that if you say, “chicken,” Moose will turn her head towards you!! It was SO cute and worked every time! Also, when we were taking photos of just Pauline and Alex, Moose kept getting in their shots. We would place her next to me, but she will end up walking back towards them—it was hilarious! See for yourself below! I think it just shows how much she loves them :) If you’d like to follow Moose’s journey, check out @m00sethecorgi on Instagram!
