Aiden's 1st Birthday | Durham Family Photography

One of the biggest honors of being a Durham family photographer, is watching families grow! Especially when it comes to babies, they grow WAY too fast! Today's story is about the Yoo family, and I had the special opportunity to take photos for them again. The last time I took photos for them was for his 100th Day Celebration, which is a traditional Korean celebration. This time, we were taking photos of Aiden's 1st birthday and it was a blast!

There were so many delicious treats and decor (which you can see below!), and they also wore hanboks, which are colorful, traditional Korean clothing. Baby Aiden also played a game where he got to "pick his future career" and he picked the stethoscope! We'll see if he becomes a doctor! :)

One of my favorite photos was when we brought out the stuffed animal manatee. I remember they were fond of manatees, and was curious to see if this was something Aiden would love, too...and boy, he sure did! He absolutely LOVED snuggling his face against the stuff manatee and kept giggling! He was so happy he was kicking his feet up and down, and it was SO adorable and cute!!!

The second part of the shoot we went outside to take beautiful fall family photos, and we had so much fun! Aiden loved having his mom softly blow into his face, and his smile will just melt your heart! Seriously, take a look yourself! Enjoy the photos!

When Karmann contacted me to do an extended family session, I was so thrilled! Extended family sessions are perfect if you want to include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. to your shoot, and/or do a variety of locations. Documenting multiple generations is not something a lot of families do anymore, and making it happen is extra special. Oh, and did I mention we were able to capture grandparents from BOTH sides of the family?! Talk about an extra, EXTRA special session!

One of my favorite parts of the session was when we took photos out by the fields. We were recreating a photo they did a few years ago, with everyone staggered in different positions. I asked them to give me their best "vogue" pose, and they totally knocked it out of the park! In addition, we took a variety of portraits in the fields, and the golden hour lighting was STUNNING. Every single photo was absolutely gorgeous, but most of all, it was their connection and love for one another that made it even more beautiful. Enjoy the photos!

All I can say is WOW! This family in Durham totally ROCKED their lifestyle family photography session last month! I remember when Sammar contacted me, she told me she wanted to capture genuine and natural photos of their 6 month old and the energy of their family. As she was describing her goals for the shoot over the phone, I was so excited because I could feel her energy as she was talking and her vision fit right in line with my style!

When I arrived, I could tell right away we were going to have so much fun. Baby Zane was ALL smiles and LOVED the camera! He couldn't take his eyes away from me! His eyes were bright and curious, and he was so cheerful during the whole family photo shoot (you can see for yourself by scrolling down!). It also helped that Sammar and Kyle were just as happy and excited as Zane! They made my job so easy!

The Simmons are also a well-traveled family, and I loved hearing about their adventures around the world before they had Zane. There was a beautiful wooden sign in Zane's room that said, "Oh the places you'll go..." and it was such a meaningful and sweet touch for his nursery. Hopefully this baby will have the same love as they do for traveling and exploring the world!

Enjoy the photos below and getting to know this joyful family!
