Sunset Maternity Session at Dix Park | Raleigh Maternity Photographer

I had a wonderful time taking maternity photos for the Geary family last month! They are truly one of the most upbeat and cheerful families I’ve met, and they were all SO natural in front of the camera (including their cute little maltipoo!). We took photos during the golden hour (my favorite time of day!), and the light was absolutely amazing!! The sun came out from behind the clouds a couple of times, and it created such a beautiful, warm backlight to the photos. I especially loved the backlight when capturing Sarah’s solo maternity portraits and the photos where Sarah and Matthew were swinging their daughter (she was so happy!). The sunlight behind them added wonderful dimension and depth to the photo, and just looked so pretty!

What I loved most of all from this photo shoot was capturing the “togetherness” of their family before baby #2 arrives. Maternity sessions are truly a family session. Maternity sessions are more than just capturing your baby belly; it’s more about capturing who you are as a family in this moment in time. The dynamic of your family will change and documenting the reality of this moment before everything changes is priceless. Trust me, you will never regret capturing the different seasons of life with your family!

Enjoy scrolling through my favorite photos below! There were many sweet and fun moments during this incredible session, and I know baby #2 is going to be so loved! :)

Gorgeous Maternity Session at UNC | Chapel Hill Maternity Photographer

I am SO excited to blog about this gorgeous maternity session with Melody and Chris! They met as students at UNC and have been married for 10 years, and desired to take photos at their alma mater. I LOVED that they chose a location that was meaningful to them because it shows a part of their family story! :) We also included their adorable Italian Greyhound, Tebow, in the shoot (yes, he’s named after Tim Tebow!) and he did such a great job during the session!

We started off the shoot by taking photos by the Old Well, one of the most iconic spots at UNC. We then took photos in front of the South Building and then at McCorkle Place. Both spots made absolutely stunning backdrops, and I personally loved how the brick added an academic and historical look to their photos! Another fun spot we took photos at was at Davie Bench, also known as the “Kissing Bench.” The legend is that if a couple kisses on that bench, they’ll get married! The funny thing was that Melody and Chris haven’t kissed on that bench before, but we thought it would still be fun to do it since they are married! :)

We then ended our shoot on Franklin Street, and took photos in front of the Carolina Coffee Shop (a place where they would frequently go as students!) and also took a couple of photos of them walking on Franklin. It was truly a meaningful and sweet way to end the session! Enjoy some of my favorite photos below, and I can’t wait to meet their baby girl!!

Welcoming Baby Hudson | Durham Newborn Photographer

I had the most delightful time taking newborn photos for this sweet family! Baby Hudson made his entrance to the world early June, and was seriously the most RELAXED baby I’ve ever photographed! :)

When I arrived, Kirah was finishing up feeding Hudson, and it was a moment that I just had to capture. Seeing how lovingly and gently she was holding him, feeding him, and wiping his mouth (and seeing Mitch help) was SO precious! It’s the little gestures and expressions that make ordinary moments like this so beautiful. We then continued our session and took a lot of gorgeous photos in their bedroom. The light coming through the windows was simply spectacular! The solo portraits of Hudson were also amazing. The simplicity of the white bedsheets made the perfect backdrop to highlight his newborn freshness and newness! Not only that, he was so happy and content, which made it easy for me to photograph him :)

I also had so much fun getting shots of them as a family together, as well as photos of Mitch swaddling Hudson! When we took portraits in the nursery, I felt like it added so much character to their story. From the cute Calvin and Hobbs stuffed animal, to the Virginia Tech blanket, to their cats making an appearance to the shoot—it’s these types of details that brings out the uniqueness of each family! By the end of the session, I honestly felt like every shot was AWESOME and below are some highlights!

Big congrats again to Mitch and Kirah, and welcome to the world, baby Hudson! You are so loved!
