Raleigh Family Photography at Umstead Park | The Vincent Family

Did you know locations play such a vital role in photography sessions? The reason is because your location helps tell your family's story. The environment is part of telling the viewer WHO you are and helps shape your story. For this Raleigh family photography story, I had the wonderful privilege of photographing the fun-loving, Vincent family!  This family is athletic and love the outdoors, and they regularly run at Umstead Park. So, it made perfect sense to photograph at Umstead Park since they spend so much time there as a family!

One of my favorite moments was when we got to the gorgeous lake. The sun was setting SO perfectly, and the light gave such a warm glow! Their daughter, Margaret, picked up some rocks and started tossing them in the lake. Her parents then joined in on the fun and taught her how to skip rocks (side note: it is TOTALLY harder than it looks!). I loved the intimacy and connection between them all, and I was so happy to steal a photo of Margaret hugging her parents on the bench. It was a sweet, organic moment and one of my favorite photos that night!

I also LOVED how funny and creative they were! Towards the end of the session, we were having fun thinking of Christmas card photos, and they came up with a human Christmas tree!! How creative is that?! You have to check out the photos below! Enjoy!

A Beautiful 50th Wedding Anniversary | Raleigh Family Photographer

How many of y'all have witnessed a 50th wedding anniversary?! I had the honor to document this rare occasion for the amazing couple, Don and Polly. It was beautiful seeing all of their close family and friends attending to celebrate their love and commitment to one another! There were a number of things that stood out to me that evening...

1. The decorations. Since 50 years is known as the "golden anniversary," the theme was gold. All the details were so elegant and carefully designed. What blew me away was that their daughter was the one who did all the decorating and planning! I especially loved the wooden signs that said, "All my love, all my life" and "Home is wherever I'm with you." This was significant because Don and Polly moved a lot during their marriage--I believe it was about 14 times! Don was in the navy, so moving was something they were used to.

2. Polly still has her bouquet from her wedding. I mean seriously, WOW! After all the moving, it has been carefully preserved and looks outstanding. You can see in the photo below!

3) Celebrating 50 years of marriage runs in their family. Don's GREAT grandparents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1904, and Polly's grandparents celebrated their 50th in 1952! In addition, they had their 50th anniversary photos at the party! You can take a look in the gallery below!

4) Don and Polly know their grandkids well. They clearly knew their grandkids well because they got their two grandsons fidget spinners, which in case y'all didn't know is super popular now!

5) Most of all, what stood out for me was Don and Polly's love for each other!

The rest of the evening was full of stories, tons of laughter, and delicious food. Truly a night to remember! Hope y'all enjoy the photos!

Raleigh Family Lifestyle Photographer | The Henderson Family

One of my favorite types of shoots is to do a lifestyle family session! If you're wondering the difference between a portrait and lifestyle shoot, portraits are more posed and lifestyle shoots are more candid and have a more documentary feel (i.e., you're purely capturing life as is, right now). Lifestyle shoots are usually done at home, too. For the Henderson family, we did a combination where we took candid portraits outside and then took some lifestyle photos inside the house. They are an incredibly warm family and filled with so much love!

One of my favorite moments was capturing baby Ryder outside--he had the cutest giggles when his parents were kissing him, and you can see for yourself below! When we went inside, we played with some of Ryder's favorite toys...blocks! He had a blast knocking the blocks down after building them up! I was also thrilled that we could capture some intimate, precious mommy-and-son moments. Kristy played peek-a-boo with Ryder, and he would get so happy he would kiss her on the cheek! :)

If you think about it, some of the sweetest memories come from the most simple activities, and those are the moments I want to highlight. Whether it's playing blocks together with your baby, eating breakfast together as a family on Saturday morning, or going to your favorite park, documenting that memory is worth everything. If you're interested in a family portrait or lifestyle session, please contact me here for a free consultation! I'd love to chat with you and capture your everyday moments...because it's the little moments that are worth everything.
