Outdoor Maternity Session | Raleigh Maternity Photographer

If you’re on the fence about getting maternity photos, let me tell you it’s something SO worth doing! I had the wonderful opportunity to capture maternity photos for Kathleen and Andrew, and I couldn’t have asked for a sweeter couple. I remember Kathleen saying that she wanted to capture the excitement during this time of waiting, and to be able to look back at these maternity photos and feel good about how her baby bump looked. Mamas, if that sounds like you, I highly recommend capturing maternity portraits—whether it’s with me or having a friend or spouse take the photos! This season of life is so precious and special—a time where your body is changing and your family dynamic is changing—and is something you won’t regret doing.

The day of our shoot was VERY chilly, but Kathleen and Andrew (and their dog, Lori) were such troopers! They were brave enough to take their jackets off for a few minutes at a time and fight the cold during their session. I do have to say though, you can’t even tell it was a cold day by looking at the photos because they had SO much warmth and excitement for their baby boy—see for yourself below! :)

Enjoy scrolling through some of my favorites from this beautiful winter maternity shoot!

A New Family of Three | Durham Newborn Photographer

I recently had the sweet honor of taking newborn portraits for the Prenshaw family. A couple weeks earlier we took maternity photos at the Hillsborough River Walk, and it was such a JOY to work with them again…this time with their baby girl!! Baby Julia arrived right around her due date in December, and her delivery went by faster than expected. It was so fast, that Carley didn’t have a chance to get an epidural! But oh what joy she brought to this beautiful family, and she came right on time for the Christmas season.

We took photos in the morning at their beautiful home, and baby Julia was all ready to go! Our shoot went by smoothly and baby Julia did so many CUTE things during our shoot! She gave the sweetest little yawns, and her hands would perfectly be positioned around her chest or face. When she was awake, she would look really intently at the camera, and it was hilarious!

My favorite moment was when she put her fingers around her face and it was the cutest photo EVER (see the second to last photo below!), and I’ve never seen any baby do that by themselves! I’m a big fan of baby-led posing, meaning I don’t force the baby into a position that’s not natural for them. I’m all about seeing what they will naturally do and how they will position their bodies—and might adjust them slightly—but most of it is natural posing. I think this type of posing is the most genuine, honest, and real.

Enjoy the highlights from this precious newborn session, and getting to know this new family of three!

The Janson Siblings | Raleigh Family Photographer

Siblings are truly one of the greatest gifts in life—there’s no other person who really knows you like your brother or sister! I recently had the wonderful opportunity to photograph the Janson siblings. The youngest, Makayla, got in touch with me and I learned they wanted to gift their parents with a photo of all of them. Getting all four of the siblings together was so precious because they live in different cities, and as we all know the older you get, the harder it is to coordinate dates/times with people!

The day of our shoot was a bit chilly, but I was SO glad the sun was shining! We had a morning shoot at the NC Museum of Art, and we had so much fun taking photos together. They had AMAZING energy during our session and were full of joy and smiles. They were also so genuine and silly with their interactions with each other! I also learned the two oldest, Elise and Kyle, are TWINS (see first photo below: the twins are the two siblings who are standing in the middle!). I couldn’t have asked for a sweeter group of people to work with, and I hope you enjoy scrolling through my favorites!
