When I'm not documenting family photos, you can often find me taking event photography in Raleigh. I recently had the honor to be the Official Show Photographer for the Southern Bridal Show produced by Forever Bridal. It was such a fun time capturing candid shots of so many excited Raleigh brides and families, and meeting talented and passionate vendors. Definitely check out Forever Bridal's next show in August!

My favorite part of the event was shooting the fashion show, which you can view more below. One of my tips for shooting events is to look for expressions and gestures to make a photo more interesting. Another tip is to get down low, and capture leading lines. Composing a shot is one of the most important elements in photography, and something ya'll can practice doing even with your iPhones! One of the things I love about Raleigh, NC is the number of amazing non-profits here in this area. Recently I had the wonderful opportunity to take professional head shots for these women graduating from Dress for Success Triangle NC! For those who don't know about Dress for Success, they serve under-employed and unemployed women in the Triangle area by providing them with the skills and resources to succeed in the workplace. They equip them with professional attire and development tools, as well as professional head shots, such as the ones I took for them!

We took these head shots at Lenovo in Morrisville, and it was such a joy to meet each one of these ladies. What do you think of when you hear the word, "home?" It's a word that can stir up a lot of memories. Some may have moved a lot during our childhood and can't think of a place of permanence; others may have stayed in the same house their whole childhood! Regardless how often a person moves, the word "home" not only symbolizes a place, but often relates to family. Who did you live with? Who took care of you? Who did you fight, laugh, and play with? I believe the people you live with really helps define a home to be a home.

This lifestyle family session in Raleigh was so special because the Phillips will be moving soon, and they wanted to capture memories of their family in their beloved home. For those who aren't familiar with lifestyle sessions, lifestyle photography is simply about capturing people doing life. It's about photographing your everyday moments in a genuine and authentic way. During the shoot I had a chance to document the girls reading to their little brother, the family having a fun tickle session, and some family portraits (yes, funny faces are allowed!).
