Introducing Baby Theodore | Durham Newborn Photographer

Oh the joy of taking newborn photography at home! Lifestyle photography sessions are my favorite because it is a wonderful, fun, and relaxing opportunity to capture who you are as a family!

For those who aren’t familiar with lifestyle photography, it basically means you take a documentary and photojournalistic approach to capturing photos. While I still incorporate some posing during sessions, I also create room for the unposed, candid moments. Ultimately, my goal as a lifestyle family photographer is to create images that tell a meaningful story of your family while capturing genuine emotion in your photos. Lifestyle photography does not look stiff, awkward, cheesy, staged, or forced. Lifestyle photography is real, natural, organic, genuine, authentic, candid.

All that to say, I had such a wonderful time taking lifestyle newborn photos for this sweet family at their modern, cozy home! Baby Theo was born a couple weeks after Kathleen and Andrew’s maternity session and came out earlier than expected, but he was just so excited to join his family! :) He was SO adorable during our session, and I absolutely loved taking photos of him being held in his parents’ arms! It’s the way parents look and hold their precious baby that makes these newborn sessions so endearing and beautiful.

I hope you enjoy the photos and getting to know this sweet family of three!

A Micro Preemie Miracle | Durham Newborn Photographer

Every newborn session is truly special. I had the honor to photograph the Huynh family and I was so moved by this family’s love, strength, and resilience! I learned that baby Huynh was born in July, a couple months early of his expected due date of November. I also found out their son was born the day their movers were supposed to come and help them move to California for Frank’s new job!

All that to say, baby Huynh was truly a miracle baby—he was a micro preemie baby when he was born and weighed about a pound. He then spent the next five months in the NICU, and after gaining enough strength he was finally discharged on Christmas Eve (what a gift!!).

Frank then contacted me about getting newborn photos done while he was in town (since he was flying back and forth to California every two weeks for work), and I was so honored to document their beautiful family. Their little man was about 10 pounds when we photographed him and was such a joy to photograph! I loved how he much he enjoyed looking at his parents during the shoot, and he was SO alert and inquisitive! We also had so much fun having their dog, Rilo, join in on the family photos!

Capturing the joy and emotion of being a new parent is so beautiful, and documenting a baby’s new life is priceless. It truly is your story and love that inspires me when I photograph families, and I’m so humbled and honored when families choose me to be their photographer. Enjoy the highlights from this precious lifestyle newborn session (the last photo will melt your heart), and getting to know the amazing Huynh family!

Outdoor Maternity Session | Raleigh Maternity Photographer

If you’re on the fence about getting maternity photos, let me tell you it’s something SO worth doing! I had the wonderful opportunity to capture maternity photos for Kathleen and Andrew, and I couldn’t have asked for a sweeter couple. I remember Kathleen saying that she wanted to capture the excitement during this time of waiting, and to be able to look back at these maternity photos and feel good about how her baby bump looked. Mamas, if that sounds like you, I highly recommend capturing maternity portraits—whether it’s with me or having a friend or spouse take the photos! This season of life is so precious and special—a time where your body is changing and your family dynamic is changing—and is something you won’t regret doing.

The day of our shoot was VERY chilly, but Kathleen and Andrew (and their dog, Lori) were such troopers! They were brave enough to take their jackets off for a few minutes at a time and fight the cold during their session. I do have to say though, you can’t even tell it was a cold day by looking at the photos because they had SO much warmth and excitement for their baby boy—see for yourself below! :)

Enjoy scrolling through some of my favorites from this beautiful winter maternity shoot!
