A New Family of Three | Durham Newborn Photographer

I recently had the sweet honor of taking newborn portraits for the Prenshaw family. A couple weeks earlier we took maternity photos at the Hillsborough River Walk, and it was such a JOY to work with them again…this time with their baby girl!! Baby Julia arrived right around her due date in December, and her delivery went by faster than expected. It was so fast, that Carley didn’t have a chance to get an epidural! But oh what joy she brought to this beautiful family, and she came right on time for the Christmas season.

We took photos in the morning at their beautiful home, and baby Julia was all ready to go! Our shoot went by smoothly and baby Julia did so many CUTE things during our shoot! She gave the sweetest little yawns, and her hands would perfectly be positioned around her chest or face. When she was awake, she would look really intently at the camera, and it was hilarious!

My favorite moment was when she put her fingers around her face and it was the cutest photo EVER (see the second to last photo below!), and I’ve never seen any baby do that by themselves! I’m a big fan of baby-led posing, meaning I don’t force the baby into a position that’s not natural for them. I’m all about seeing what they will naturally do and how they will position their bodies—and might adjust them slightly—but most of it is natural posing. I think this type of posing is the most genuine, honest, and real.

Enjoy the highlights from this precious newborn session, and getting to know this new family of three!

The Prenshaw Family is Growing! | Hillsborough Maternity Photographer

I recently had the honor of taking maternity photos for the Prenshaw family, and it truly was a joy capturing this sweet moment in time for them! When I chatted with Carley over the phone, I remember her telling me she didn’t want to look like a fairy in her maternity photos (think flowy dress, flower crown, and bare belly), but wanted to capture photos of her and Eric that looked genuine and natural. I was thrilled to hear she also loved a natural, authentic style, and hope that encourages any mamas out there that you do not have to bare your belly or wear a crown to make it a maternity photo! Whichever photography style you prefer, go with the style that makes you comfortable and feels the most like YOU!

So back to the shoot, the day of our session was BEAUTIFUL! We captured photos during the golden hour and took photos at the scenic Hillsborough Riverwalk. Carley and Eric were so excited for their photo shoot, they even practiced some poses beforehand! I thought that was so sweet and cute! :) We started our session by taking photos with the famous twig sculpture, which was an artwork they love. If you haven’t seen it yourself, please do consider checking it out—it is truly an amazing piece of work made up of ALL twigs! We continued our session by taking photos on the different pathways, by the river, and on the bridges. One of my favorite spots was taking photos by the river. The light coming down was like from HEAVEN! It was incredibly pretty and illuminated them perfectly!

Most of all, I loved how HAPPY and relaxed they were during the shoot! It honestly made my job so easy to photograph them! I loved every minute of this sweet maternity session and can’t wait to photograph their baby girl once she arrives! Enjoy the photos!

Introducing Baby Charlotte | Durham Newborn Photographer

If you know me, I’m a HUGE fan of at-home newborn photography! I believe it is such a meaningful and relaxing way to document your family especially when you have a new baby in the home. You don’t need to worry about remembering if you packed everything (like bottles, blankets, diapers, etc.) or worry about getting to the shoot on time; instead, you get to relax and stay put because I come to you!

I recently had the sweet opportunity to capture lifestyle newborn photos of the Ellis family. I remember receiving a call from Lindsay, and learned that baby Charlotte was born about 3 weeks early and was in the NICU for about a month. They were all SO happy once Charlotte was able to be home with them, and I was so honored to capture these memories for them!

There were so many memorable, tender, and funny moments from the shoot! When we started the session, their dog eagerly jumped on the bed and kept looking at me as if she wanted her photos taken. So of course, I HAD to take a couple of shots of Holly the dog! I also included her in the family shots because she is, after all, a part of the family! In addition, Lindsay clearly has gift with aesthetics and design. Their house looked like something you see on Pinterest, and it was so warm and cozy!! I learned she has a love for arts and crafts, and most of the furniture in their home was passed down or given by family (like the rocking chair and quilt!). Lastly, when we ended the shoot, baby Charlotte fell asleep and somehow her arms came out of her swaddle. She raised them above her head, and apparently this is one of her favorite sleeping positions! It was the funniest and cutest thing ever!!

It was truly a joy capturing these memories for this sweet family. Capturing photos of them just being together and enjoying the gift of their baby girl is priceless! Hope you enjoy the highlights from their newborn session below!!
